Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 is here!

Alienware just released the m15 Ryzen Edition R5, the company's first laptop with AMD's new Ryzen 5000 series APUs since 2007.

Alienware delivers the m15 Ryzen Edition R5 with a Ryzen 7 5800H or a Ryzen 9 5900HX, along with 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB of DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM RAM. Additionally, the gaming laptop can be configured up to 6 TB of PCIe M.2 storage.

Moreover, the m15 Ryzen Edition can be equipped with a GeForce RTX 3060 or RTX 3070. Both GPUs have 115 W TGPs, although Alienware will allow them to consume a further 10 W of power via NVIDIA Dynamic Boost. Alienware has provided aired these GPUs with a 15.6-inch display that is available in three configurations. The cheapest is a 1080p panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate and 3 ms response times, but there is another 1080p panel with a 360 Hz refresh rate and a 1 ms response time.

Alternatively, Alienware sells a 1440p panel with 1 ms response times and a 240 Hz refresh rate. Every panel support ComfortView Plus, although the cheapest 1080p panel misses out on NVIDIA G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus support. The 1440p panel can also reach 400 nits, 100 nits higher than the 1080p panels. Alienware claims that the former is more colour accurate, too.

All models ship with an 86 Wh battery and a 240 W power adapter. The machine comes in one colour, but it is configurable with two keyboard types. By default, Alienware includes its 'mSeries 4-Zone AlienFX RGB keyboard', which has 1.7 mm of key travel. You can equip the m15 Ryzen Edition R5 with CherryMX mechanical switches too though, which have 1.8 mm of travel and N-key rollover support.

The Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 weighs between 2.42 kg and 2.69 kg, depending on its configuration. Alienware will begin selling the device in China from today and in the US from April 20. Meanwhile, all other regions must wait until May 4 before the m15 Ryzen Edition R5 will be available to order. Currently, Alienware has only confirmed the device's starting price, which is US$1,793.98.
